The new digital world order – a chance or danger for democracy?

Big Data, boundless communication and surveillance possibilities to an unknown extent: The new digital world order triggers euphoria and fear at the same time. The four digital giants, Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon evolved from promising start-ups to global economic powers. Their fair market value exceeds the national economy of some countries. With the help of algorithms, codes und and advertisement services they coin the people’s information habits and media use. What are the consequences of such a digital disruption for the democracy? What are the results of data – mining, “Filter bubbles” and personalized communication?
Is the digital age in need of new orders, orientation and democratic basic rights?
