Katja Zinggl-Pokorny, Editorial Director ORF nachlese #24 What can be done about the digital divide? Ultimately, the transformation into the digital world can only succeed if everyone can be brought along. Even those who sometimes have difficulties with the internet. ORF nachlese also has an important role to play in this: as an accompanying material for all ORF broadcasts and programmes, it has made it one of its goals to deal with topics that deal with the Internet and the resulting joys and pitfalls, especially in its book section "Einfach beraten".

Words like "internet banking" or "phishing e-mails" are explained in an easy-to-understand way - and how to deal with them. The correct handling of passwords, data, data protection and the rights and obligations that come with them are also covered, as is the simple use of the devices themselves.
Especially in times of a pandemic, it is necessary to give pensioners the opportunity to remain able to act, even though the ways in which they have to organise themselves have changed abruptly.
The step into the internet and the digital world had to be made as easy as possible.

To take this socio-political event into account, ORF nachlese, in cooperation with the fit4internet association, implemented an easy-to-understand, 20-page section in its October 2020 issue. The aim was to take away the fear of the "new", to be able to take the first steps into the digital world safely and to dive into the matter step by step.

With helpful tips, hotlines to turn to in case of doubt and easy-to-understand explanations, the aim was to achieve greater digital literacy and the self-reliance that goes with it. Of course, showing the possibilities of digital communication should also protect against the threat of loneliness.
