Eva Elsigan, Editor Online and New Media #6 Can the TVthek set a precedent? More than 60 years of TV history can be found in ORF's multimedia archive - unique, exciting, surprising, memorable and beautiful. The goal of "ORF-TVthek goes school" is not only to preserve these treasures in the long term, but also to make them accessible to the general public online.

Therefore, dozens of curated video archives are available on the ORF-TVthek video platform at https://TVthek.ORF.at/history. In the form of selected programs and features from ORF television from past decades, they provide an interesting insight into a wide range of topics related to contemporary and cultural history. They are - hence "ORF-TVthek goes school" as the name of the project - also particularly suitable as a multimedia educational offering for teaching in schools and other educational institutions and can thus help to bring educational content closer to young people in particular by means of modern communication media.

This linking of online and streaming technologies with the extensive and high-quality source collection of the ORF TV archive thus helps ORF to fulfill its function as a mediator of historical events, as Austria's multimedia memory, as a gateway to a better and deeper understanding of the past and present, even better, more modern and above all more focused on the target group of young people. The video archives of ORF-TVthek represent a valuable addition to ORF's online portfolio and, as a way of making central TV archive content freely accessible over the long term, an important public service added value. At the same time, the fulfillment of the educational mandate is also significantly supported through contemporary, modern and digital knowledge transfer.
