06 | JUNE - Federalism Regional, but not provincial - Martin Weberhofer, ORF Carinthia Our task is to be a regional program in the best sense of the word. Accordingly, we inform and report on what's happening in the country, but also on everything that interests people in this country. In this sense, our station claim is also "At home in the world. This means living and conveying regionality in all its facets, but also openness to the world. We try to be present not only in the central region of the country, but above all in the regions and valleys. On the one hand, we want to be a reflection of the country, but also an audiovisual stage. Customs and tradition have just as much a place in our programs as innovation. We broadcast live from traditional festivals and events, but also report from major research institutions. And we try to offer a platform to all those initiatives that counteract the rural exodus and work to make decentralized regions more attractive.
On the other hand, multiculturalism and looking beyond borders are also very important to us. Especially in the intersection of the three cultural areas Austria/Italy/Slovenia with the eventful history and the over many decades everything but simple coexistence of the peoples and ethnic groups. Starting with the Olympic bid "Senza confini - Without borders" in the 1990s, we took up this three-region idea and established a daily trilingual radio program entitled "Servus Srecno Ciao", and for many years there has also been a weekly TV program. Particularly with regard to the coexistence of the Carinthian ethnic groups, we were able to contribute decisively to a better mutual understanding and probably also help to prepare the ground for the final solution of the Carinthian place-name sign question. We started a trilingual language course on air ("100 words in 100 days"), and on television we deliberately chose a colleague who is very much anchored in the Carinthian customs and music scene to create all the TV reports from Slovenia for the corresponding series on television, so that the person himself could also point out the similarities between the two cultural areas. - The installation of the bilingual place-name signs and the great acceptance of this solution to the Carinthian place-name sign question is undoubtedly also due to a significant contribution by our trilingual broadcasts.
