25 Jahre »Nachbar in Not«
Zum 25. Jubiläum der ORF-Aktion "NACHBAR IN NOT" fand am Montag, dem 19. Juni 2017, ein international besuchter Empfang beim Bundespräsidenten und Schirmherren der Hilfsaktion, Prof. Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, in der Wiener Hofburg statt. Geladen und gekommen waren nicht nur hochrangige Vertreter des ORF und der "Nachbar in Not"-Hilfsorganisationen - Caritas, Care, Diakonie, Hilfswerk, Malteser, Rotes Kreuz, Samariterbund und Volkshilfe -, sondern auch zahlreiche Botschafter jener Länder, denen "Nachbar in Not" in den vergangenen 25 Jahren in Krisen- und Katastrophenfällen geholfen hat.

Insgesamt 223,1 Millionen Euro sind seit der Gründung der Hilfsaktion, die 1992 als Hilfe für die Flüchtlinge und Vertriebenen des Jugoslawienkrieges ins Leben gerufen wurde, von den Österreicherinnen und Österreichern gespendet worden. Zehn Jahre half NACHBAR IN NOT den notleidenden, zivilen Opfern des Bürgerkriegs beim Überleben und schließlich auch beim Wiederaufbau. Die Aktion wurde zum Synonym für rot-weiß-rote Hilfe und ist es bis heute geblieben. NACHBAR IN NOT wurde 2003 in eine Stiftung umgewandelt und hat sich in einem Vierteljahrhundert von der Jugoslawienhilfe zur Österreich-Dachmarke von ORF und NGOs für internationale Hilfseinsätze entwickelt.
