EBU veröffentlicht Empfehlungen zur Verbesserung der Medienfreiheit in Kroatien
Ein neuer Bericht der EBU ("European Broadcasting Union") thematisiert die Medienfreiheit in Kroatien und empfiehlt dem kroatischen öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk HRT ("Hrvatska Radiotelevizija") neue Rechtsvorschriften, um dessen Unabhängigkeit zu gewährleisten.

Die Empfehlungen betreffen unter anderem beispielsweise das Vorgehen bei der Ernennung des HRT-Generaldirektors und andere HRT-Leitungsstrukturen. Ziel ist es, die kroatischen Gegebenheiten in Einklang mit den europäischen Standards zu bringen.

Vertreter/innen der EBU sowie einiger weiterer Organisationen wie dem Europäischen Zentrum für Presse- und Medienfreiheit (ECPMF) oder Reporter ohne Grenzen (RSF) besuchten Kroatien im Januar 2018. Dabei stellten sie fest, dass sich die Situation der Medienfreiheit im Land seit einem ersten Besuch im Juni 2016 zwar verbessert habe, jedoch weitere Fortschritte erforderlich seien.

In der Rangliste der Pressefreiheit von Reporter ohne Grenzen liegt Kroatien auf Platz 69. Zum Vergleich: Österreich belegt den 11. Platz.
